Our Naturalists

Animesh Manna
Hello!! I am Animesh Manna. I hail from the ‘City of Joy’ Kolkata. Since childhood, I have been fascinated with small creatures. After completing my graduation in B.Sc (Geography) from Calcutta University I wanted to bid goodbye to the four walls of formal institutions and start observing nature in its natural habitat. I truly enjoyed studying butterflies and dragonflies and started documenting their life cycle. After a stint as a professional naturalist in Sunderban, I came to Pench to continue my journey of exploration. I have extensively explored Satpura Tiger Reserve as well while working there. I am also passionate of creating short videos which take me to different landscapes. I also love to cook and read ghost stories in my free time. Now as the Chief Naturalist at Tathastu, I look forward to expanding my knowledge with the expansion of Tathastu properties in different parts of M.P. and Maharashtra.
Debarpan Datta
Hello. I am Debarpan Datta. I come from Kolkata. From a young age I felt the urge to associate myself with the serenity that emanates from the natural world. With a deep rooted aspiration, I shaped my academics to become a Wildlife Storyteller. I did my Graduation in English Literature and a Post-Graduation in Environmental Studies to have a grip on language and techniques. Birds and Mammals have always fascinated me. I started working with “Nature Mates” as a Wildlife Rescuer, Content Developer and Editor and slowly paved my way into Wildlife Research & Conservation. Working and leading in various biodiversity and community based projects with the Government and private bodies, in different Indian landscapes helped enriching my skills. I completed my Fellowship on Threat Assessment of Migratory Wader’s Habitat in Coastal Sundarbans under Earth-Watch India. I have written for magazines, led tours, excursions whilst working as a freelance naturalist. I convey my gratitude to Tathastu Resorts for giving me the opportunity to explore and learn about the jungles of Central India.

Ratan, popularly known as Ratanji is originally from Rajasthan but has been in Pench since 2000. Even though he has not taken any formal training as a naturalist, he has acquired appreciable knowledge of the forest and its denizens during his long stays in the jungles while working as a contractor for the forest department. His special connect with the locals, especially guides and gypsy drivers, enables him to understand the animal movements on previous days and gives him an edge in planning the drives.

I saw wild animals in natural habitat at the age of 4 in Periyar National Park, Kerala and the first tiger at the age of 10 in Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra. Since then the journey to explore different natural landscapes and learn more and more about wildlife began. I hope to devote my life to nature as wildlife photography is my hobby.
